It appears that Sooraj Pancholi and his family might soon be able to heave a sigh of relief. The CBI has informed the Bombay High Court that Sooraj’s girlfriend, actress Jiah Khan’s death was not murder but, as per its investigations, ‘suicide by hanging’. It was claimed that the CBI has no reason to protect the accused, Sooraj Pancholi in the case. The High Court said that the decision on Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan’s plea will be taken on August 23, while continuing its interim stay on the trial against Sooraj Pancholi, Jiah’s then boyfriend. The CBI has dispelled the theory proposed by Rabia Khan that someone entered the flat from an open window and the distance between the fan and the floor did not support the case of suicide.

The CBI has also recorded statements of people who had met Sooraj that day, as well as the domestic helps, and also examined the CCTV footage.
It was on June 3, 2013 that Jiah was found hanging from the ceiling of her residence, leading to her boyfriend Sooraj being charged with driving her to commit suicide.
